Summer 2023 Internship: United Therapeutics

Global Medical Affairs

May-August 2023

During my summer interning at United Therapeutics (UT) within their Global Medical Affairs (GMA) business unit, I had the opportunity to work on a multitude of projects where I collaborated with individuals across various different teams and functionalities. My internship had three primary aims: (1) assist and review GMA's yearly strategic planning process, (2) initiate and prepare for the transition to a new Grant and Sponsorships portal, and (3) present an in-depth analysis of AI-based algorithms indicated to assist in diagnosis of Pulmonary hypertension (PH). Each of these projects required different skillsets. From the strategic planning process, I learned how to coordinate multi day strategy meetings with a large group of people (20-40), how to facilitate the ideation process, and how to prioritize and review project ideas generated from the strategy planning. During my work on the Grant and Sponsorship Portal project, I learned about the different types of grants and sponsorships that UT offers, the stringent regulations behind these grants, as well as the internal process for reviewing and selecting grants/sponsorships to fund. I also learned how to conduct and carry out inter-departmental interviews and use the feedback from these interviews to develop an evaluation and improvement criteria for a new portal system. Lastly, during my work with the PH diagnostic landscape, I learned how to read and search for patents along with gaining an understanding of FDA regulation of AI-based devices. See the presentation linked below for an overview of the key projects I completed during my time with UT.
